(GIS) Constitutional Affairs Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams says that a number of deadlines that were set based on the November 24, 2008 agreement signed between the Island Territory (IT) and the Central Government have not been met. The commissioner is confident that this will not negatively influence the track that the constitutional train is currently on in obtaining country status.
The April 1 deadline for the IT to make a takeover offer to the Central Government employees working in St. Maarten will be missed, because all needed information has not been received from the Central Government. Deadlines have also been affected by the Antillean Parliament, because the legislative body still has to ratify law proposals to allow for the transfer of employees from the Central Government to IT. |
